ANNOUNCEMENT
At the time of this email, we currently have 23 ladies registered to play in the 2023 BAU Women’s League. We are about half way to matching last year’s number of players. There are several others who have expressed an interest in playing but have not yet registered. If you have not yet registered and plan to play, please do so. This helps us better prepare for the season. If you know of any female aged 14 and up who wants to play, please have them register HERE. If we get at least 44 ladies registered by Friday, August 12th, then we will have four teams. Entry fee will be around $25 per player. This will be collected by the coaches and must be paid before the first game, August 25th.
All games will be played at Gate City Baptist Church. The field is located behind the church and down the gravel drive at 5250 Hilltop Rd, Jamestown, NC 27282.
GAME PLAN
The overall game plan is to have the skills evaluations for players who have not evaluated in the past two seasons on Saturday, August 12th (moved from August 5th). Each player will be scored and, if possible, placed on a team with your listed preferred teammates. Please keep in mind, our main priority is to create balanced teams for better competition. Game days will be alternating Friday and Saturday nights. No doubleheaders during the regular season unless we get significant rainouts. Following the season is a single elimination tournament. We should finish up around the end of October or first of November, depending on rain and actual number of teams. We do not want any forfeits, so the league will allow pickups from other teams in our league. This allowance will not be permitted during the tournament. Ideally, each team will have their own pitcher, but if not, then the coach can play as a stand-in pitcher only.
SPECIFICS
Game balls are 11” ASA 44/375 and will be supplied by the league. Game bats must be single-wall aluminum; the approved bat list is attached to this email. Game bats will be supplied by the league if needed. For this season, game shirts do not have to match, but no duplicating numbers. More information will be given to the coaches.
PRACTICES
Practice times will be made available for the teams at Gate City Baptist Church ball field. Once the teams and coaches are selected, available practice times will be given to the coaches.
The purpose of the BAU Softball Program is, first and foremost, to glorify God. This is accomplished largely through our witness on and off the field, before, during and after the games. All teams are expected to cooperate with umpires, opposing teams and coaches, concessions personnel and fans at all times. The BAU Bylaws can be found here.
